NearSt – Helping High Street Shops Sell More Locally
Shopping locally in Woking is becoming even easier, thanks to a new initiative Woking Borough Council has launched to encourage people back onto the High Street.
From this summer, if you search for some of your favourite products online, you may well see them appear in google search results alongside which local shop has them in stock right now. This is down to a collaboration between Woking Borough Council and NearSt - a retail technology platform who are on a mission to get people back into High Street shops.
According to NearSt, 83% of shoppers would prefer to shop nearby instead of online if they know an item is available in a nearby store. So, the company helps retailers automatically get the products on their shelves into Google, making it just as easy for consumers to find something locally as it is to order it online.
Lookout for signs in shop windows letting you know that their stock is now searchable in Google. Shops looking to find out more and who are interested in joining should visit near.st/woking. Woking Council and the European Regional Development Fund are subsidising 50% of the full £399 setup fee for the first 25 shops to sign up.
Helping residents to support local businesses on our High Streets is part of a wider ‘love local’ campaign which Woking Borough Council has launched in partnership with the University of Surrey’s Business School, Near St and food waste reduction company Too Good To Go, to establish the town as a leading green local shopping destination.
