Vitality Index 2021The UK prosperity index

Woking was crowned  as the top-ranked location for vitality in 2021 by Lambert Smith Hampon's Vitality Index, closely follwed by Windsor & Maidenhead, Bath and Cheltenham.
The main index utilises 18 datasets to identify which locations are the best to live and do business in, and have the strongest growth prospects.

Woking is in the Top 10 (of the UK) on the Economy and Business pillar, with a top score for wage growth and commercial property investment.

Woking is also particularly strong on the Health and Environment pillar (ranked 2nd) with low levels of cardiovascular mortality and high scores for life satisfaction and recycling.

Woking has been recognised as one of the best local authority areas in the country to live, work and play,  according to a research study.


The UK Prosperity Index, published by The Legatum Institute, looked at 12 different aspects of how an area is performing.


It shows that the council’s work to support local businesses has paid off and we have striven to improve living conditions through better tenants services and regeneration and look after people’s health.


All 379 local authority areas were looked at by the study, with Woking coming in fourth in the UK – behind Waverley, Ricmond-upon-Thames and Wokingham and 3rd in the South East.
