Swingbridge Community Boats
The Swingbridge Community Boats provide training, volunteering, environmental conservation and leisure trip opportunities along the waterways of Surrey.
2012 is a double birthday year for us: 10 years of Swingbridge and 30 years of the Surrey Care Trust.
The Swingbridge boats are an accredited training centre, recognised by the National Community Boats Association. Swingbridge 1 and Swingbridge 2 are used for training, education activities and team-building.
Courses and Trips
We have developed several courses for our volunteers and young people on other Surrey Care Trust programmes, and can offer these to youth organisations, schools, companies or private groups of friends. From April to October, we run boat trips for small groups of people, young and old, from all kinds of Surrey community organisations, giving them the opportunity to enjoy a couple of relaxing horus on the water.
Volunteering
A volunteering scheme is at the heart of our Swingbridge programme. Our Swingbridge volunteers are involved in environmental work and learn basic boat-handling skills, with some going on to qualify as skippers.
As a Swingbridge volunteer, people skills are invaluable for enthusing young people, motivating the offenders who have work placements on the boats or welcoming the many groups who join us for summer boat trips.
