Monument Way road improvement works to commence

Works to improve the junctions of Eve Road and Arnold Road and the pedestrian footpath along Monument Way will commence on Monday 29 July 2013, as part of the Sheerwater Access Road scheme.

To enable the improvement works to be carried out safely, temporary traffic lights from the canal bridge to the railway line bridge along Monument Road will be in place to restrict traffic flow to one lane. During the works, the `No Right Turn' from Monument Road into Eve Road will be suspended.

The improvement works are part of the wider Sheerwater Access Road scheme, which will see a new 80-metre link road connecting Monument Road and Albert Drive built, that will remove the need to navigate the current congestion-prone one-way system running through the narrow and crowded residential streets of Eve Road and Arnold Road.

The road will significantly improve vehicular access to the largest concentration of business parks within the Borough, located along Albert Drive, helping to deliver inward investment and improve the economic vitality of Sheerwater and neighbouring areas.

It is expected that this phase of the works will be completed by the end of August 2013, while it is anticipated that the new link road will open to traffic in November 2013.

Woking Borough Council, Surrey County Council, and its partners, would like to thank drivers for their patience during the improvement works.
