Plans for Victoria Square - a new quarter for Woking
Exciting new proposals are set to be launched for the redevelopment of part of Woking Town Centre to be known as Victoria Square, at a public exhibition from Thursday 12 September 2013.
Victoria Square will be delivered by Bandstand Square Developments Limited (BSDL) a joint venture between Moyallen, owners of Peacocks Shopping Centre, Surrey County Council and Woking Borough Council. These organisations have come together to deliver Victoria Square.
Victoria Square comprises the former Woking Market (currently being relocated to Peacock Walk), the site of the former post office, Globe House, Woking Fire Station (which is due to be relocated), Bandstand Square civic space, a number of existing retail units including Boots and some of the surrounding road network including Victoria Way, Cawsey Way and Church Street West.
BSDL will display proposals for the site's redevelopment to deliver 125,000 sq ft of new retail floorspace anchored by Marks & Spencer, a new Boots store, a four star hotel with conference facilities, spa and gym, new residential apartments, additional car parking and two new public plazas. The proposals include the relocation of the existing fire station and a site for a new fire station building has been secured in Goldsworth Road. The new building will be larger than the existing with increased facilities to better serve the community. The new fire station will be completed prior to the decommissioning of the existing facility.
Interested neighbours, residents and members of the public are invited to attend the exhibition and to discuss the proposals with representatives of the developers. There will be opportunities to provide comments and feedback on the proposals before they are formally submitted as part of a planning application.
Councillor John Kingsbury, Leader of Woking Borough Council, said: "These exciting redevelopment proposals to create Victoria Square will positively transform this part of Woking town centre and deliver a high quality mixed use development anchored by Marks & Spencer. It will include a number of improvements that will benefit local people as well as attracting important investment into the town."
Councillor David Hodge, Leader of Surrey County Council, commented: "The development plans for Woking are part of the County Council's long-term priorities to support the economy of Surrey, improve services for residents and provide local jobs for local people."
Peter Robinson from Moyallen added: "Working closely with our development partners Woking Borough Council and Surrey County Council, we invite all members of the public with an interest in the site to come along and view our proposals. The feedback received will be collated, considered and, where appropriate, incorporated into the final development scheme."
The public exhibition will take place at Unit 9 (next to Sainsbury's), Wolsey Walk West on:
-
Thursday 12 September, 10am - 8pm
-
Friday 13 September, 10am - 5pm
-

Representatives will be able to answer questions regarding the plans. The plans will then remain on show until Friday 27 September.
