Sheerwater link road opens to vehicular traffic

The phased opening of a new link road that will improve accessibility, reduce congestion and unlock Sheerwater's economic and social vitality was announced yesterday (6 November 2013).

To enable the phased opening, and helping to improve traffic flow in the area, temporary lights will remain in operation at the junction with Monument Road.

The new link road, including off road cycle and footway facilities connecting Monument Road and Albert Drive, will significantly improve vehicular access to the largest concentration of business parks within the Borough, help deliver inward investment and improve the economic vitality of Sheerwater and neighbouring areas.

Meanwhile, the phased opening has also taken place of the reconfigured junction between the eastern end of Devonshire Avenue and Albert Drive to improve vehicular access to Bishop David Brown School.

Enhancement works to the junctions between Monument Road and Eve and Arnold Road will continue, and are expected to be completed before the end of December 2013.

It is expected that the Sheerwater link road, to be known as Albert Drive, will be completed and fully operational by 30 November 2013

The scheme has been funded by Woking Borough Council, Surrey County Council and Enterprise M3.
