Searching for Surrey’s new generation of entrepreneurs

Searching for Surrey's new generation of entrepreneurs

This week (Monday 18 to Sunday 24 November 2013) is Global Entrepreneurship Week and to mark the week, Start Up Woking, in partnership with Surrey Youth Focus, is announcing three free hands-on workshops for young entrepreneurs who are looking to start a business.

If you are aged between 16 and 24 years old and thinking of starting a business, you should look no further for the support you need. The workshops, held at the C2I Incubator, Export House, are led by a variety of business experts and are specifically tailored to provide attendees with the knowledge they need to succeed.

Starting Up, day 1 of the workshops, will kick off on Tuesday 3 December at 9am. This day-long session is practical, and will provide attendees with vital information on starting a business. A fellow young entrepreneur will share his experiences, an expert business advisor will be on hand and attendees can also book a follow-up one-to-one mentoring session.

Managing Money for Business, day 2, will take place in January 2014. This session will be delivered by experts in start-up business finance, Barclays Bank. Focusing on the management of funds, the day will cover basic accounting, why profit is essential, managing cash flow and funding sources.

Marketing and Social Media, day 3 of the workshops, will be held in February 2014, and will allow attendees to learn how to use social media to promote their business. Delivered by experts in the field, this workshop provides an insight into the growing value of social networking. Further details on each workshop will be available at www.wokingworks.com

Cllr Gary Elson, Woking Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Promoting the Local Economy, said: "These free workshops are such a fantastic opportunity for those young people who are thinking of starting a business to gain valuable help and advice. I'm thrilled that this support is being made available and I would encourage people to book onto the workshops and reap the benefits."

All workshops are held at The C2I Incubator, Floor 2, Export House, Woking. If you are interested in attending, please contact Surrey Youth Focus for a booking form by emailing [email protected] or calling 01483 453962.

Surrey Youth Focus would like to thank its funders, Wates Family Trust and Comic Relief for their support, and Barclays Bank for dedicating their time without charge.
