Woking to host TEDx event on 23 January 2015
The stage is set for Woking to host a globally recognised TEDx event. TEDxWoking will take place on Friday 23 January 2015 at the WWF-UK Living Planet Centre in Woking Town Centre from 09:30 to 16:00. The independently organized event, licensed by TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design), will feature local voices and TED Talks videos under the theme of `transformation'.
Launched in 2009, TEDx is a program of locally organized events that bring the community together to share a TED-like experience. Some of the best talks from TEDx events have gone on to be featured on TED.com and garnered millions of views from audiences across the globe.
The theme `transformation' is inspired by the current verve of the Borough. With the Town Centre landscape evolving into a contemporary city-like street scene, the increase in new businesses choosing to start up and locate in Woking, reinforced with a stronger business development support service and network, Woking is fast becoming the place where ambitious and talented people choose to live, visit and do business.
Speaking about the event, Cllr Gary Elson, Portfolio Holder for Promoting the Borough at Woking Borough Council, said: "We are extremely proud to be hosting a TEDx event. The line up of over 10 local and international specialists promises to be an exciting day of short talks which focus on thought leadership, expert opinions and interesting experiences. The event aims to bring like-minded people together to share ideas worth spreading, spark discussions and to create dynamic connections."
Sam Marshall, Economic Development Officer at Woking Borough Council and TEDxWoking organizer, added: "This exclusive event has a limited capacity of 100 places, so make sure you don't miss your chance to attend.
"The ticket price of £32.45 per person covers the production costs of the event and includes entry, lunch, refreshments and booking fee. For those who are unable to attend, the event will be streamed live via the website at www.tedxwoking.com."
