Invotra apprentice has been recognised for his achievements on major government contract
Jamie Garrett, 20 from South East London left school with excellent GCSE results. He’d already shown great aptitude in ICT, but rather than going onto higher education he decided to become an apprentice.
When Invotra went through a period of growth they decided to invest in an apprenticeship programme, one that is now stronger than ever. Jamie approached Invotra independently about their apprenticeship programme after finishing a short term contract for London 2012 Olympics.
Since being at Invotra Jamie has gone from strength to strength, he has had experience and training on 6 different coding languages, client services and now is the team leader for training and development for the Home Office project.

When asked about the wider use of apprentices within Invotra, COO Alison Kelly said ‘Our commitment to training and developing our own talent came from a belief that we could find and develop top quality people early in their careers and do so in a way that would provide for the long term growth of the individuals and the company allowing us to compete in a highly competitive market. We got involved early with eskills and QA in IT apprenticeships and invested heavily in making sure we gave every apprentice the best opportunity possible. It seemed like a natural fit for Invotra. It’s very satisfying to pick, train and develop your own talent – well look at Jamie!’
Jamie’s achievements have been recognised two fold. He completed his level 3 apprenticeship earlier this year and is going to be acknowledged at a graduation ceremony in Guildford this summer along with two other Invotra apprentices, Emily Hirth and Chelsea Cadd.
He has also just received notice that he’s been shortlisted for Microsoft Apprentice of the Year awards. He has been put forward in the small business Apprentice of the Year category. To say we’re proud would be an understatement. He will be attending the awards ceremony on the 4th June at Thames Valley Park, Reading. The awards will be hosted by Michel van der Bel, Managing Director, Microsoft UK - Good Luck Jamie!
Invotra has created a publishing and collaboration platform which is currently being used by 1 in 5 government employees. Io1 the company behind the intranet platform, Invotra is based in Woking, UK and celebrated it’s 10 year anniversary this year.
