Major highways works EXTENDED in Woking Town centre
To support the continued economic growth of Woking Town Centre, a series of scheduled highway enhancement works to Victoria Way are to be brought forward to commence from Monday 20 March 2017.
Works to remove the central reservation along Victoria Way, between Church Street West and Lockfield Drive, will create a new junction enabling road users to turn right into Forge End. The new traffic light controlled junction will improve vehicular access to Church Street West.
In preparation for construction work to Victoria Square beginning in the summer, the A320 will also be adapted between Church Street West and Victoria Arch to provide construction loading and unloading facilities that will minimise future disruption to road users once building works begin.
During this phase of the works, it will be necessary to remove two pedestrian crossings by Toys R Us and the former Woking Market site. These will be replaced with temporary pedestrian crossings to maintain connectivity between the east and west sides of Woking Town Centre.
The enhancement works will mean that the existing diversion route and traffic restrictions currently in place along Victoria Way will remain in place until Thursday 11 May 2017.
Enhancement works along Chertsey Road to begin
In other development, as part of the Woking Integrated Transport Project, scheduled works to Chertsey Road and Duke Street will commence on Monday 27 March 2017. This will mean the closure of Chertsey Road between Chertsey House roundabout and Duke Street for six weeks.
The works will introduce important changes to the highway network that will see:
- the direction of traffic between Chertsey House roundabout and the Chertsey Road/Duke Street junction reversed (from sound-bound to north-bound) to enable traffic to flow the length of Chertsey Road
- traffic turn right on to Chertsey Road from Duke Street
- traffic turn both ways on to Duke Street from Locke Way
- widening of the pedestrian footpath
- changes to on-street parking arrangements on Chertsey Road and Duke Street (subject to separate formal consultation).
