Gordon Ramsay announces when new cookery school and restaurant
World famous Michelin-starred chef Gordon Ramsay has announced when his eagerly-anticipated new cookery school will open in Woking.
The TV personality, who launched award-winning series Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, confirmed that The Gordon Ramsay Academy will open in the autumn this year.
"I know how important mentors are; how important it is as a professional chef to sharpen your skills; to be guided in your training and to gain valuable work-place experience in a professional kitchen environment.
A notice on its website reads: "Our fabulous facility in Woking is now under new ownership. Tante Marie Culinary Academy is no longer running courses. However, we still act as an important champion of our graduates who enjoy successful careers in food around the world."
Ramsay's publicist said the academy will be an industry-leading facility, offering guests of all ages and cooking abilities the opportunity to enjoy "fun, relaxed and informative cookery classes".
It will support those looking to step into the hospitality industry by offering them a place to hone their skills, alongside real work experience, within Ramsay's portfolio of restaurants.
Students will be offered the chance to complete their studies with a guaranteed job at the group, and its advanced courses will help chefs already in the industry to improve their knowledge and skills.
In addition to the "prestigious and exciting" academy upstairs, Ramsay will open the first Street Burger restaurant outside of London on the ground floor of the Woking site.
A spokesperson said: "The restaurant space will be super inviting, casual and relaxed. The vibe will be kitsch, cool and quirky, with distinctive neon tube lighting and street art feature walls."
The Street Burger menu will offer seven tasty statement burgers, made with ingredients sourced from British providers from around the UK, as well as beers, cocktails and milkshakes. Guests will be able to enjoy any burger with fries and unlimited soft drinks for £15.
'Hugely positive' for Woking
Ramsay has numerous restaurants in London and seven Michelin stars across the globe, with international eateries in Europe, the US and Asia.
Councillor Ayesha Azad, leader of Woking Borough Council (WBC), said the opening of the new academy is "a major coup for the borough".
"Not only is it enormously exciting for everyone, it's also hugely positive for everything we're doing to make Woking town centre a vibrant and interesting regional destination.
"We look forward to welcoming him and his team."
